Julian Casablancas. Left & Right in the Dark. Phrazes for the Young is the debut solo album by American singer-songwriter Julian Casablancas. It was released through his own Cult Records label, via RCA and Rough Trade Records, on November 2, 2009, in the United Kingdom and the following day in the United States. Casablancas, who is best known for being the front man of New York City-based rock band the Strokes, recorded the eight-song album in 2009 in New York City, Los Angeles, and Omaha, Nebraska. Phrazes for the Young is the first solo album by musician Julian Casablancas, known for being frontman and main lyricist of the New York rock band The Strokes. The album was released on November 3rd, 2009, two years into The Strokes' sudden hiatus. The eight-song album was recorded in New York, Los Angeles, and Omaha, Nebraska. With production by Jason Lader and Mike Mogis. I wouldve gone weirder with the music, but I wanted to be smart. I didnt want people to say, Okay, this is his weird abstract thing, and dismiss the album. I worked too hard on it for that to happenI wanted to be crazy original and bridge the gap between traditional music and modern music. Songs in album Julian Casablancas - Phrazes For The Young 2009. Julian Casablancas - Out Of The Blue. Julian Casablancas - Left & Right In The Dark. Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension. Julian Casablancas - 4 Chords Of The Apocalypse. Julian Casablancas - Ludlow St. Julian Casablancas - River Of Brakelights. Julian Casablancas - Glass. Julian Casablancas - Tourist. In it, a 23-year old Julian Casablancas manhandled his mic stand, eyed the camera with a hypnotic mix of rage and anxiety, and tugged at his jacket as if he was about to burst. At one point, Casablancas swatted his mic down and left the stage in a huff only to return exactly as guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. wrapped up a brief solo. Chaos control. Phrazes for the Young is a jumble of contradictions. The music and artwork is steeped in 1970s and 1980s tropes yet also vaguely futuristic. The words are apocalyptic, depressing, and sometimes worthy of a zen self-help manual, and while there are only eight songs, this thing seems to go on forever. infinitely more memorable than the last Strokes album. Alexis Petridis. Published on Thu 29 Oct 2009 GMT. Phrazes for the Young offers treble-heavy Strokesish guitars over 80s synthpop there are jittery drum machines and knowingly cheesy, triumphal-sounding synth riffs and vocals delivered in time-honoured I-am-an-alienated-robot staccato. The single 11th Dimension opens with a bassline influenced by early house that could have stepped straight off a late 80s Pet Shop Boys album. It's a beguiling mix. Phrazes for the Young. Perhaps it's fitting that Julian Casablancas' solo album arrived last out of all of the projects the Strokes pursued during their post-First Impressions of Earth hiatus. Albert Hammond, Jr. and Nikolai Fraiture stayed close to the band's mold with their extracurricular projects, and while Fabrizio Moretti's work with Little Joy might technically sound more different than his main band's music, it doesn't feel as bold as Phrazes for the Young. Phrazes for the Young is the debut solo album by American songwriter Julian Casablancas, released on November 2, 2009 in the UK and November 3 in the US. 27 October 2009. Casablancas, who is best known for being the front man of New York rock band The Strokes, recorded the eight-song album in 2009 in New York, Los Angeles, and Nebraska. Phrazes for the Young is an outstanding synthpop record with all the 80's new wave nostalgia you could want. The production is great, the choruses are as catchy as you'd want them in a Strokes-related release, I love Jules vocals on here and there are a great deal of clever lines here I live on the frozen surface of a fireball
