Its not tearing up any trees in the 31st century electronica stakes, but its still a fascinating record. By 1991, techno had comprehensively infiltrated the mainstream and Kraftwerk were back in the game to collect their props. With Flür gone and Bartos on the way out, Fritz Hilpert was new in town and still in the band today. Kraftwerk souped up their sound for the 90s market accordingly, remixing favourites and ensuring everything had a kinetic dancefloor makeover, reflecting the evolution of tracks when they played live. Marc Riley traces the career of Kraftwerk, whose 70s electronic music owed more to the experimental German classical compositions of Karlheinz Stockhausen than to any pop tradition. Available now. The writer Paul Morley says that Kraftwerk compressed all the best ideas of 1970s modern Germany into pop music, and hes absolutely right. As we journey through the story of their sound with host Marc Riley, we also learn that they were some of the funniest and most eccentric musicians of their generation. Did you know that Kraftwerk would cut the wires of speakers in a public place if they felt the music being piped was ugly . With Ralf Hütter, Kraftwerk, Florian Schneider-Esleben. The Robots is a song by Kraftwerk from their seventh studio album The Man-Machine. It was released as a single in 1978. The songs lyrics explore robotics and how this groundbreaking use of technology affects society, a theme often referenced throughout Kraftwerks discography. The Robots includes lines in Russian spoken in a pitched down voice. A rearranged and rerecorded version of The Robots was released as a single in 1991 as part of their remix album The Mix.
