Is the main complaint about the vinyl only that it's too quiet so you can't take it to clubs and that? Regardless of how quiet it may be, is the sound quality decent; like if you turned it up a fair bit, could you still have a good listening experience?
It's remastered and it has lost all the beauty which was on original pressings. Original pressings sounds more analog and is louder. If you cope with that , it is nice compilation.
weak audio on vinyl. you'll have to push the gain 25% upwards when playing live, which sucks. anyway, a must have for those who like house music the way house is house. if you want to play this in a club you'll have to practice before, it's too weakly recorded. shame but...
i also confirm the low gain issue at least for the first vinyl i bought as individual.. which suxx. Also it's warped, backcueing is impossible without stylus jumping. The record shop i bought this, says all vinyls are warped.. Big shame for Rush Hour!
For someone who was lucky enough to purchase Prescription the first time round can we have the Ron Trent Feat. Harry Dennis - Black Magic Woman on a seperate 1'' please? Can't justify owning all those records again for just one 12''.
I know this is Discogs, but can anyone speak to the quality of the digital version of this release? I bought the box and as most are saying, it is not for use by working DJ's. Is the digital?
I've bought this set on wav and it's doing it for me.
Collector's item, not for working DJs. Pressing is way too quiet, I would not play this on a loud system unless the booth is absolutely pristine conditions.
The entire presentation here is beautiful. Given that it's twenty-four 12" singles across six LPs, you're going to lose some of the oomph you'd get from individual singles (we should all know that). But the tracks themselves sound fantastic and clear. I was a bit concerned when the first LP was slightly warped, but that wasn't the case with any of the others. They could be thicker pressings, but that would add significant weight to the boxset. The sleeves are individually coloured which helps sort out what's what. And the liner sheet chronicles the details of each single with the original label featured. The housing of the set is sturdy board with golden embossed lettering. This anthology was worth every penny.
Can someone confirm that the pressing of the 6 lps is ok? hanks!
Hi Cyrilnoya, any update yet on your purchase. Temped to buy a copy myself. Will be only enjoying it for home use but still like a decent enough press for that.
I ordered mine really recently from a German record shop. When I will receive the box, will update for the others.
If the repress is same as the 1st release the pressing is really quiet. The gains need to be cranked up to the Max.
In my opinion it's ok, but some tracks are really quiet. Not recommended for club use.
It is super compilation... Carton box looks good on shelf, but the sound is what i am lookin for. No magic here as it is with most of the re-presses nowadays. Repress? Think twice.
if someone is willing to sell me only A/B vinyl hit me up
To be quite honest, this compilation gets pretty boring towards the end. They would have been much better to compile 8/10 of the best cuts and press it up on a double LP, or even just as some 12"s which RH have done with projects in the past. It just seems needlessly bloated at the size it is - wasn't the whole point of something like this to make what have been expensive records for a long time, more accessible and obtainable without having it costing an arm and a leg? While the packaging is super nice it appears that perhaps some corners have been cut with the actual audio, whether it's the super quiet vinyl pressings or digital files which sound heavily compressed.
is there really only 400 worldwide? i was told this
No, that would be just silly. There's at least 450. :-)
This is a perfect release showcasing one of the best duo of the 90's house music scene, masters Ron & Chez! Must have for every house heads around the planet! This is one of the most perfect house music release of 2017 according to me!
I received my copy a few days a go and let me just first say what a completely stunning collection it is. As a label guy myself, there's definitely a lot to "soak in". The high quality box w/ gold embossing, the poster is simply amazing, each vinyl in it's own colored jacket, AND a card for a free download. It truly is a sight to behold and the sheer amount of work that went in to making all that happen is absolutely nothing to take for granted here and trust me, I don't. Having said all that - it's very deflating to have the sound quality of the vinyl as poor as it is. The first thing that stands out to me as a possible culprit are the track lengths per side of each record. Typically, the benchmark is under 15 minutes per side for standard 12" vinyl. Obviously, there's quite a few instances throughout where they've greatly exceeded that and I feel that's played a major role in why the vinyl sounds as poorly as it does. I downloaded the digital files and conversely, the sound quality was loads better. I know something like this is primarily deemed as a collector's item first and foremost and it is DEFINITELY that. But, I for one was also looking forward to giving a few of these cuts (all of them really) a rip at gigs too and due to the sound quality of the records, I just don't think that's a good idea. I'll carry the digital versions and utilize them whenever I can, but it just doesn't FEEL right playing these cuts digitally .. personal preference I guess. Anyways .. just my own take-away.I'm still proud to own a piece of history like this either way!
ben - my dude. yeah mate, don't get me wrong the collection itself is an amazing compilation that label guys like you and i can fully wrap our heads around. in the end, i have to agree with some of the other comments though .. i appreciate PROPER sound quality no matter what i'm listening to. if it's Beethoven's symphonic delights or Word, Sound, & Power .. doesn't matter. it needs to sound pristine, period. it's kind of sad that this box set has become a fixture on my record shelf unit rather than my bag. if you own the originals of what you already fancy, i'd keep it there mate and save yourself the quid. or just borrow a mate's copy of this box set over a weekend & by the time monday rolls around you'll have no problem returning it.
youve made my mine up for me mike, i already own a few of the originals and i think ill stick to them
I sold it immediately! As soon as I heard the sound quality. That particular kind of music should be listened at High Volumes and should give that sense of Warm. How can it be an "home" collection? It's not beethoven, and if it was i'll still look for a great sound quality.Really, really bad.One of the first to buy it when it came out. bought 2 copies...sold both. They do not deserve those money AT ALL!
I couldn't have said it better myself, although I tried to express my disappointment for the playing part. It turns out it will be enjoyed at home as a collectors item. Pity
I concur that the whole release is quiet. Half of the tracks even with Gain turned to maximum, you still cannot get the desired "club volume" output. Everything else is fantastic. The package itself is properly done and the content is timeless. Prescription all the way!
Anyone knows in what way Ron Trent is involved in Angora's "Enchantment"?
it was released on his record label, so executive producer i guess would be the official title
Does the Vinyl & CD sets feature the exact same tunes or does one or the other have more?
Ok, looks like 4 tracks are missing on the CD.
Juno has CD in now and CD also has download coupon card enclosed.http://www.juno.co.uk/products/ron-trent-prescription-word-sound-power/637792-01/
There is no CD realease from what i know but digital files (flac,mp3...) You get a download card to reedeem on bandcamp. And yes same tunes for Vinyl & Digital.
It boggles the mind how they managed to have a double space in a title on an album cover.
Beautiful house music from the master. Essential box-set for those that didn't hear it the first time.....;-)
Mine just arrived in the mail yesterday. All of the pressings are quite quiet. Some are extremely quiet, to the point where if I turn the gain on my Allen & Heath Xone 42 preamp up to maximum, they don't even peak at 0dB on the meters. Musically however, this release can not be faulted.
The digital download versions are the exact opposite - all of those are heavily compressed to the point of sounding poor over real speakers (not phones, tablets, or computers).Given the choice, I'd prefer the quieter vinyl over the overbearingly loud digital versions.
Wow,Mine just arrived today and I don't want to open it ,it looks beautiful ,it looks like I might have to purchase another just to open :)
I read this before mine turned up and thought... "that's a bit much". As soon as I opened mine I thought just the same. It's a stunner!!
Just phenomenal; exactly how a box set should be. No useless gimmicks to jack up the price, just six twelves and a download code. Eternal praise for Ron Trent, the Prescription family, and Rush Hour for releasing this monument.
Do people just want to know how many are being pressed so they can profit off the release when it sells out? I can't see how it's important? Music is of outstanding quality and production value, surely that's what matters.
Probably because it's worth £60-70 and not everybody is able to drop that cash on the spot.
I would also like to know how many are being pressed Rush hour Have not said which usually means represses are possible
1000 was the number of pressings i originally heard and/or read
