Tom Waits. Mule Variations. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Mule Variations is the twelfth studio album by American musician Tom Waits, released on April 16, 1999, on the ANTI- label. It was Waits' first studio album since The Black Rider 1993. The album was backed by an extensive tour in Europe and North America during the summer and autumn of 1999, which was Waits' first proper tour since 1987. Other promotional stops included a solo performance on VH1 Storytellers. Tom Waits grew steadily less prolific after redefining himself as a junkyard noise poet with Swordfishtrombones, but the five-year wait between The Black Rider and 1999's Mule Variations was the longest yet. Given the fact that Waits decided to abandon major labels for the California indie Epitaph, Mule Variations would seem like a golden opportunity to redefine himself and begin a new phase of his career. However, it plays like a revue of highlights from every album he's made since Swordfishtrombones. Of course, that's hardly a criticism the album uses the ragged cacophony of. HP Waits being beautiful, dark, experimental, sentimental etc etc. If you can listen to cold water and not love it, you have a mild super power. Favorite track: Cold Water. Allen Hopgood. Allen Hopgood Tom Waits welcome to my life. Where have you been all these years Favorite track: House Where Nobody Lives. About Mule Variations. In describing the origin of the album title, Tom Waits said in a 1999 interview: My wife said, I didnt marry a man, I married a mule. Thats what she said. You know, its like the Goldberg Variations. Only these are the mule variations. People dont write as much about animals as they should. Perhaps they will now in the future, I dont know. No, its just one of those titles that stuck. I dont know what people are going to think Mule Variations are. Wed done the song, Get Behind the Mule. Wed done it several times. We did a Chinese version, and we did a cha-ch. Mule Variations is a music album by Tom Waits released in 1999. Mule Variations is ranked 797th in the overall chart, 152nd in the 1990s, and 20th in the year 1999. This album is rated in the top 2 of all albums on . Mule Variations is a great album, and that's all there is to it. Sonically, it picks up where Bone Machine left off , but drops some of that album's artifice: the clattering, trebly out- back- of- the- shed sound is still here and the inexplicable presence of Primus persists, but many of these songs find Waits relaxing his krazy karnival barker persona. But is it Tom Waits' fault that people are so hung up on those particular albums Look, you've got two options here: you can continue to bolster your own nonexistent street cred by dissing new Tom Waits in favor of old Tom Waits, or you can give it up, admit that it's all great and increase your own personal enjoyment. Overall, Mule Variations is Waits' most consistent effort, even better song-for-song than Rain Dogs, and the album does a wonderful job of blending the man's two distinctly different personalities. Two different personalities You read that right. The album kicks off with Big in Japan, which is all Evil Tom. Creepy, distorted vocal effects kick off the song and they are quickly followed by a dirty electric guitar, New Orleans-style horns and a bass part played by Primus mastermind Les Claypool. The lyrics here are tongue-in-cheek
